The award highlights Pelaz’s scientific leadership, international reputation, and excellence in her work. She co-directs the BioNanoTools group at CiQUS, where her groundbreaking research explores controlling the physicochemical properties of nanomaterials to determine their biological behavior. She has also pioneered the development of new technology to modify the surface of nanoparticles using DNA origami structures. This cutting-edge research has opened new avenues for the application of nanomaterials in medicine, particularly in the design of innovative therapeutic solutions.
